Sony did what many gamers had hoped it would do for years: re-introduce The Last Guardian. The long-awaited title has been confirmed for the PlayStation 4, and it will be out some time in 2016.
The Sony E3 press conference opened with a look at the title's gameplay running on the system, and to our eyes, the kid and animal's design looked unchanged from when we last saw The Last Guardian on the PS3 those many years ago. That's not to say it did not look new-gen, because it did.
As you can see in the trailer below, the boy has different calls to the animal, and it helps the kid cross chasms and gaps by being able to catch him with either its mouth or tail.
The gameplay demo also shows instances where the kid can also help the animal as well. While hanging for its life on a balcony attached to a building, the kid rolls a beam in place for the animal to get purchase on so it can scrabble up. The interplay between the two clearly strengthens their bond – the main theme of the game.
It's good to see the game back – and with a release window – but 2016 is a little vague for our liking. Hopefully, we'll see the game sooner rather than later, which is a wish we've always had for the title.
