Last Week, Bungie rebalanced a number of Destiny’s weapon classes. These changes affected auto rifles, scout rifles, and shotguns. At the same time, the developer drastically reduced the efficacy of one of the game’s most exalted exotic weapons, the Vex Mythoclast.
The base damage of the Mythoclast, a possible reward for beating the Vault of Glass raid on the “hard” difficulty setting, was reduced by 34 percent. Bungie says that was in an effort to reduce its potency in Crucible (player-vs-player) combat.
The studio recognizes that drop may have been too drastic. In its weekly update, Bungie addresses the situation.
“We are adjusting the base damage on Mythoclast,” community manager David Dague writes. “We are going to find a value that works for both PVP and PVE. In addition, we intend to raise Mythoclast's attack value above and beyond the other exotics. Attack value dictates how much damage players deal to combatants and Mythoclast attack value being raised will make it more effective in PVE.”
Bungie wants players to be able to rely on the Mythoclast into the next raid, Crota’s End. Bungie wants to make sure that players can’t rely on a single exotic exclusively for PvP, and Mythoclast was unbalanced in that regard. It isn’t the only exotic that Bungie has its sights set on either.
“Mythoclast should be a valid choice in PVP, but should not be the optimal choice,” Dague writes. “This aligns it with our philosophy on Exotics throughout the rest of the game. We don’t want any one Exotic to be the only answer to the question “what should I bring into PVP.” Suros Regime, for instance, is still too effective in PVP compared to other Exotics.”
Bungie also says it is tweaking the final Vault of Glass boss, Atheon, once more. The team is adding bumpers to make sure he can’t be knocked out of the environment. These fixes should be implemented this week.
