This is an idea I have just gotten while sitting in a party with Aceduece and Umbra, but it would be cool to have a more competitive side like back in the old PG, DIY days. We were most notably looking to start a Grifball team and build up. I was thinking maybe we start a new board for the competitive people and build new teams as we see fit or as people want to do it. I think it would be a good way to draw in some people who may be looking to play competitively, even though it won't be one of our main recruiting points. It is a little more than an idea, as it is a request because me and Aceduece are looking more and more into playing competitively, as we discovered that Me, him, and fireviper are quite the steam roller when it comes to Grifball. I would like to know how the rest of Panic Nation and the leadership think of this idea.

I think the past shows that 'competitive' ideas tend to fail in communities, and not just ours. I remember making it onto the Halo 3 Renegades back in RGC and them never having a single practice or game.
I like the idea of Panic Nation members flying the PN flag while playing competitively. It's why I request players have the 'PN' clan tag set in the call of duty games.
This could be easily tested in games such as Call of Duty: Ghost that have a clan and clan battles feature. However, this sort of thing always has a sort of excitement build up for it just before collapsing due to players no caring enough or leaders not doing their part.
If you think there is room for this in the community, and that it has a chance to be successful without pulling away from other focuses in Panic Nation, then I won't deny your want.
What I would recommend is you picking one idea, drawing up a blue plan and explaining to me in detail how you plan to set it up, keep it active and interesting and where you expect to find opposing teams to play. I won't be trying to spear head anything competitively. That's not to say I won't participate, but I won't start and run anything of the sort.
I see no use in this if you're simply going to be playing matchmaking, that doesn't seem to be any different than what we do now. If you do however manage to find other clans or groups of players that are interested in having matches, that has potential. I know there are plenty of grifball leagues out there that are looking for players.
Just understand that this can lead to what ORL became, a bunch of guys taking a game that was meant to be fun way too fucking seriously.

I was looking more into the Grifball thing. Like, a place on the forums where we can go and maybe form a team and hold try outs and what not. I was more or less requesting looking for a team, or forming more than one. Umbra suggested to, "Get your main team together, then have 1 or 2 guys on reserves." Which is a sound idea, but, We would like to be able to assemble more than one team for practice reasons. Maybe enough members for a 3v3 scrimmage practice. The post was mainly directed at the Grifball. Umbra also told me of a pretty big Grifball league that I cannot recall the name for at the moment. The main thing about it though, is I would love it, if we would be doing it while representing Panic Nation. It is another way to get our name out there.

I like the idea Ronnie and I love playing Griffball so if I'd participate, but I understand Tylers fear of having people get way to serious as well as the potential to recruit "members" for the league who don't give two shits about what PN actually is; so that would be something you guys would have to watch out for

I'm a bit confused as to why you would want to have a 3v3 Grifball practices when the game is a 4v4 type.
You can google the league.
I think if it's something you want to do, you need to put it together and get it running. You get the details, find a league, find you a team and get something rolling.
Grifball matchmaking would suffice for practices, as what better way than trial by fire.
Eric is right to say you should get your main players and then some back ups. History also shows that team based efforts usually end up shitty due to members not appearing when needed. That's why you've got the reserves.
We can talk about a board and other things when you've got all the details planned out and settled.
Don't forget, I ran the ORL Grifball league for a season or so. It was quite fun, but people wouldn't show up. Keep it small. Keep it in trial. But above all, keep it fun.
EDIT: In reply to David, people that try to join for one thing only wouldn't be voted in by any respectable member. Hence the "Keep it small"

That's the idea Tyler. Creating a community based team. If you aren't in Panic Nation, or a well known voted in member, you aren't eligible. I am only really looking to create 1 or 2 teams and go and represent Panic Nation in other grifball leagues or in some form of competitive manner. I think it would be a fun side project, if it crashes and burns, it crashes and burns. No harm done or people lost. I doubt it would start problems, or people getting mad at eachother because we aren't playing against eachother. I'm sure there will be the traditional blame game or bitching if we lose, but nothing we couldn't pull ourselves out of, as we are a tight group of friends who just want to play something they are good at.

Why would you need two teams?

Just if a lot of people in the community are interested I don't want to be a one team thing. There may be more than 4-6 people interested. I doubt it, but anything is possible.

It makes no sense to have two teams, Ronnie. Have one team with you as Captain. If you have more than four people wanting to participate, rotate them out in games. Sub them out as needed. I promise you there is no need for two teams.
